Penn Foster Offers New ICD-10 Medical Billing and Coding Certificate Program
Scranton, PA (PRWEB) May 10, 2016 -- Penn Foster, Inc., a leader in career-focused online and blended learning solutions for today’s workforce, today announced it will offer a new ICD (International Classification of Diseases) certification program, ICD-10 Training for ICD-9 Coders. This new program is designed to prepare medical coders already trained in ICD-9 to acquire the ICD-10 training and knowledge they need to take an ICD-10 certification exam.
Designed as follow-on to Penn Foster’s Medical Billing and Coding Program, and available to students in the U.S. beginning May 10, 2016, the certificate program was designed as a comprehensive program teaching coding using ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, CPT, HCPCS Level I, and HCPCS Level II practices. Structured with “basic,” “intermediate,” and “advanced” modules that will allow students to study at their own pace, the program consists of 18 lessons, including a “virtual work experience” component. Students will be allowed up to 12 months to complete the program, after which they will be eligible to sit for the AAPC CPC (or NHA or AHIMA) exam to become a certified coding professional.
“Penn Foster is very pleased to offer an ICD-10 certificate program, which replaces ICD-9 coding and aligns with the long-awaited ICD-10 clinical cataloging system put into effect late last year,” said Dara Warn, Chief Outcomes Officer at Penn Foster. “We have carefully planned ICD Training for ICD-9 Coders to be a flexible, efficient program for students looking to become certified in ICD-10 medical billing and coding, or for individuals already in the workforce who need to get up to speed on the diagnosis and inpatient procedure coding now being used.”
