Penn Foster Veterinary Academy Student Wins Alabama AVTA Scholarship Award for Excellence in Patient Care
Scottsdale, Arizona (PRWEB) December 17, 2015 -- Penn Foster College, a leader in career-focused online and blended education, today announced that Veterinary Technician student, Stephanie Jana Hollich, won the Dr. James Lloyd Milton Excellence in Patient Care Scholarship award. The annual scholarship is awarded by the Alabama Veterinary Technician Association (AVTA), and is sponsored by Pet Services Inc.
Ms. Hollich works at the Linderman Animal Hospital in Brownsboro, Alabama, and is currently enrolled in Penn Foster College’s Associate Degree in Veterinary Technician program. Ms. Hollich has been working in the veterinary field for over 6 years, and is a graduate of the University of Alabama in Huntsville with a BA in Biology with a minor in Chemistry. She began her work in the field as a kennel tech, and moved her way up to receptionist, adoption counselor, and finally to veterinary assistant. Over the past year and a half, Ms. Hollich has been able to work as a veterinary assistant at the Linderman Animal Hospital while studying part time to become a veterinary technician with Penn Foster College.
“It’s what I’ve wanted to do my whole life - work with animals,” explained Hollich. “Being able to do the job compassionately and efficiently does a lot for your career, and gives reassurance that you’re doing the best for the animals. Linderman Animal Hospital has taught me so much over the past year and a half, and going back for formal educational training with Penn Foster has been a great experience so far as well.” Once she received her Associate’s Degree from Penn Foster College, Hollich plans to apply to teach part time as a Vet Assistant instructor at a local university. Her ultimate goal is to become a licensed veterinarian and work at a zoo doing wildlife rehabilitation.

“I’m very honored to receive this award,” said Hollich. When asked what winning Excellence in Patient Care Scholarship meant to her, she added “I feel that it’s about treating all of your patients with compassion, comforting them and giving them the best care. [As a vet tech] you have to treat the animals very well and also get the job done.” Hollich applied for the scholarship by submitting the 1000 word essay on how the scholarship would benefit and be used for her education pursuits and to the veterinary team. Hollich plans to apply the scholarship to her Penn Foster education, and continue her work at Linderman Animal Hospital.
