Pennsylvania Athletic Trainers’ Society Members Demonstrate Leadership at Regional Levels
Philadelphia, PA (PRWEB) February 10, 2015 -- Pennsylvania’s history of leadership throughout the country is rich with stories. The athletic trainers of the Pennsylvania Athletic Trainers’ Society, Inc (PATS) have noticed the trend and are making their own history by becoming leaders. The PATS is a part of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association (NATA) District 2. District 2 supports the state of the Delaware, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and New York’s athletic training associations. Pennsylvania’s own A.J. Duffy (Widener University) has been elected to become the next District 2 Director. He is a PATS Past-President, as well as EATA’s Past-President.
The Eastern Athletic Trainer Association (EATA) which is comprised of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association (NATA) District 1 (6 New England States) and District 2 (Pennsylvania, New Your, New Jersey, and Delaware). The EATA hosts an annual educational conference, provides scholarship opportunities and awards to deserving athletic trainers from the region it serves.
Greg Janik from Kings College, PA has been elected to the President-Elect position for the EATA. Greg is a former President of PATS. Greg talked about how PATS leadership prepared him for EATA leadership, “As a Past President of (PATS) I was teamed with many exceptional ATs who made me understand that service is a privilege, duty, and the most rewarding opportunity to give back to the profession and community as we work together to make it better. I hope to continue to help make the profession better by serving the membership as the EATA President-Elect.” Michelle Monaco has been elected to position of EATA Secretary. She is an athletic trainer at Immaculata University in PA.
The EATA presents awards to worthy and distinguished athletic trainers. Pennsylvania athletic trainers received the following awards: Neil Curtis received the EATA Presidential award. Scott Devore of Bald Eagle Area High School received the Henry Schein High School Award. The 50th annual Cramer Award was presented to Bob Ward of Moravian College. Finally, Joe Iezzi won the Jeff Stone Service Award. Also, Paula Sammarone Turocy of Duquesne University presented the Pinky Newell Keynote address at the EATA banquet. “I am extremely proud of all of the Pennsylvania athletic trainers who won awards at the EATA Convention. It clearly demonstrates the dedication and commitment of Pennsylvania Athletic Trainers’ Society Inc. (PATS) members,” stated PATS President, John Moyer.
Student scholarships were also awarded to extraordinary students in order to assist with the financial needs of higher education. Four students from the Commonwealth received these scholarships. The EATA Student Scholarship recipients are: Rebecca Dubas of West Chester University who received the District 2 Charlie Thompson Scholarship. The Joseph Abrams Scholarship was awarded to Sarah Eisenhut from the Pennsylvania State University. Allison Gardner of Kings College accepted the Hartmann USA Sports Medicine Scholarship and finally Kelsey Rynkiewicz also of Kings College was presented with the EATA Scholarship.
