Washington, DC (PRWEB) November 18, 2013 -- People's Care Autism Services celebrated the first ever national policy and action summit on Autism in Washington D.C. called “Autism Speaks to Washington” (#AS2DC).
The summit was composed of leaders from across the country to speak on Autism and action plans for better health care for the developmentally disabled. These speakers were in the persons of House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (VA), Senator Robert Menendez (NJ), Rep. Chris Smith (NJ), Rep. Mike Doyle (Pa.), and several other top lawmakers and experts in the field of autism advocacy and research.
Part of the agenda was reviewing and analyzing the National Housing Survey that was commissioned this year, which examined what our autism families want and need for the future of their children.
Tuesday evening featured an event to honor and meet members of the Congressional Autism Caucus, while Wednesday activities reconvened at the George Washington University for a robust and exciting line up of keynote speakers and presentations unveiling Autism Speaks’ enhanced state and federal advocacy strategy, groundbreaking advances in science and research, and a full discussion of the barriers to, and opportunities for, addressing the housing needs of those with autism.
Autism Speaks took over the nation’s capital with lobby visits to all 535 members of Congress, delivering petitions from every state in the nation and a unified call to action on a national plan to address autism.
