PeopleMatter’s Headquarters Honored by Historic Charleston Foundation
Charleston, SC (PRWEB) April 30, 2014 -- PeopleMatter proudly announces that it was awarded the Historic Charleston Foundation’s coveted Robert N.S. and Patti Foos Whitelaw Founders Award for the renovation of 466 King Street, the PeopleMatter headquarters in Charleston, SC. Honored during the Foundation’s Charter Day ceremony on April 29, the award recognizes the preservation of Charleston’s streetscapes and buildings.
“I cannot express how proud I am that the restoration of our headquarters was honored by the Historic Charleston Foundation,” said Nate DaPore, PeopleMatter President and CEO. “I had a vision of the workspace I wanted to build for our team members – one that’s warm and welcoming with a high-tech, open floor plan and located in the center of historic Charleston. The building at 466 King Street was the ideal location, set on Upper King Street and surrounded by great restaurants and shops. Transforming the once dilapidated building into a modern state-of-the-art center, while preserving its historic value, was a challenge. We’re proud to have these revitalization efforts recognized.”
Construction efforts began in 2011 on the 200-year-old building. The vacant building was leaning and structurally unsound. A fire had destroyed the roof in years prior, and most of the second floor was missing. GreenBy3 Project Managers, with the help of general contractors Blanchard Construction, worked diligently to keep the history of the building alive while supporting the existing shell and adding interior elements.
Special care was taken to salvage as much of the original building materials as possible. Original materials were incorporated throughout, including using original brick in portions of the new walls and transforming wood beams into conference room tables and shelving.
PeopleMatter put an emphasis on blending the history of the building with state-of-the-art technology and interior design — something that can be seen in the details throughout the building. "What really made all the difference on this project was how involved Nate was – he was engaged from day one and really had a vision,” said Jorge Riano, Founder and President of GreenBy3. “He was incredibly involved in the building process and the design. He wanted a building that mixed the old and the new – one that was truly a hub for innovation, and we made sure he got it."
The Robert N.S. and Patti Foos Whitelaw Award was established to recognize citizens whose work embodies the spirit of achievement and high expectations that were the highlight of the Whitelaw’s efforts to preserve Charleston’s streetscapes, neighborhoods and public buildings from the 1940s through the 1970s.
