Per Wickstrom and A Forever Recovery Pledge $5K Grant Match for Battle Creek Police K9 Unit Fundraiser
Battle Creek, Michigan (PRWEB) June 11, 2015 -- A Forever Recovery, an open-ended holistic treatment center for drug and alcohol abuse, will be teaming up with Post Community Credit Union in an effort to raise funds for the replacement of the Battle Creek Police Department’s current K9 Officer, which will be retiring early next year. Per Wickstrom, the founder of A Forever Recovery, has pledged a donation match of up to $5,000.00 towards the purchase of the dog. Trained police dogs are highly specialized, and can carry with them hefty costs. The t otal amount the Credit Union is trying to raise is $12,500.00 according to an article from the Battle Creek Enquirer. The donation match pledged by Wickstrom’s group at A Forever Recovery will, in total, cover a large portion of that cost.
Fighting the drug problem that faces today’s society is a cause that is very important to Wickstrom. He founded A Forever Recovery after successfully overcoming his own substance abuse issues, a 20-year struggle that finally ended when he found the treatment program that worked for him. Since then, he has dedicated his life to helping others in their battles against addiction, opening his first recovery center in Battle Creek.
“Drug abuse and alcoholism are, in my eyes, the number one problem facing society today,” Wickstrom says. “Drugs nearly destroyed my life, and I feel safe saying that they are one of the biggest causes of crime and violence in our communities today. I want to help our local police department because they are doing the dangerous job of keeping drugs off of our streets and out of the hands of our teens and young adults. They deserve our admiration and respect for these efforts and for facing the dangers that they face on a daily basis, and any assistance that we can give them is beyond merited.”
Wickstrom, with the staff of A Forever Recovery behind him, is asking for others in the local community to help out with this fundraising effort so that the rehabilitation center can match those contributions. Donations can be made for the grant match through the Post Community Credit Union Go Fund Me page.
A Forever Recovery in the Local Community
A vital part of the treatment program at A Forever Recovery is participating in volunteer work and community activism. Per Wickstrom and the staff and clients at A Forever Recovery take part in many charitable fundraisers and local outreach programs throughout each year, including the Making Strides walk for the Fight against Breast Cancer, partnering with Mothers Against Drunk Driving, participating in the Trees for Troops holiday charity, and now helping with the local police department’s anti-drug efforts.
Wickstrom, after emerging victorious over his drug problems earlier in life, has seen the other side of addiction for the past 10 years while helping others overcome their substance abuse. Many of these people start out with promising lives, but the darkened path of drug addiction and alcohol abuse lead them to lives of crime. After they go through an effective treatment program like the one offered at A Forever Recovery, many of them are able to lead sober, healthy and productive lives.
“I believe that, by standing together in unity against drugs and alcohol and providing help to those struggling with substance abuse, we can beat this thing that we call addiction,” commented Wickstrom. “I have made it my life’s work to rehabilitate these individuals, not only to save lives, but also to repair the damage done to their families and communities.”
Through studying different treatment methods and rehabilitation techniques, Wickstrom developed a unique recovery curriculum that is designed to be adaptable to any person seeking help in overcoming addiction. Rather than lock a person into one modality of treatment, the program at A Forever Recovery offers a variety of rehabilitation methods, including Faith-based, Cognitive, Holistic and Indigenous, among others. This program, which is unlike any other used in the substance abuse treatment field, when combined with active community outreach events, helps the clients at A Forever Recovery to discover that their lives are important and that they can make a difference in the world.
