Per Wickstrom’s Latest Blog Post Offers Essential Advice on How to Handle Feeling Overwhelmed

“Pressure is a part of life, but there are times when the challenges seem too great and there isn’t enough time or help to do what needs to get done,” commented Per Wickstrom, who blogs regularly on health, business, technology and addiction-related topics. “What’s more, it can feel that for every challenge we face or problem we solve, at least two more crop up – so instead of moving forward, we’re either standing in place or, worse, falling even further behind. It’s my hope that people read my latest blog post to get the insight and inspiration they need to go from overwhelmed to over-achiever.”
According to Per Wickstrom, people can apply one, some or all of the following tips when the feel overwhelmed:
• Set priorities by deciding what must be done right now, and what can wait – if not for a few days, then at least a day or two, or at least a few hours.
• Tune out useless “noise” which can be external distractions, or internal self-talk that only serves to make the uphill climb more daunting. It’s also especially important to distinguish between friends and peers who offer constructive feedback, and those who simply criticize and add to the pain.
• Focus on solutions instead of problems by keeping things as simple as possible. Also be willing to accept that changing one’s behavior, attitude or actions may be part of the solution.
• Develop the ability to follow-though and finish what has been started. If the tasks are large – such as finding a new job or healing a conflict-laden marriage – then it’s fine to break the tasks into smaller pieces.
• While the challenges and problems may be related to money, relationships or other issues involving other people, don’t neglect to sleep enough, eat healthy and with a doctor’s approval, exercise on a regular basis. The rewards can be profound and rapidly turn looming problems into winning solutions.
• Reach out to friends, family members and others who can help. For some people, it may be better to communicate with a professional – such as their doctor, a therapist or another professional – who can provide compassionate, yet objective advice in a manner that friends and family members may struggle with, despite their best intentions.
• Watch a funny movie or do something that inspires smiling and laughing. Studies have shown that a relaxed mind is more creative, and can help see opportunities and possibilities that would otherwise be missed.
