PerformRx℠ Receives Top Scores in the National Business Coalition on Health’s 2014 PBM Assessment
Philadelphia, Pa. (PRWEB) April 02, 2015 -- PerformRx℠ (http://www.performrx.com), a URAC-accredited, full-service pharmacy benefits manager (PBM) with industry-leading clinical programs, announced today that the company received top scores in a survey conducted by the National Business Coalition on Health (NBCH). In the 2014 NBCH PBM Quality Assessment, PerformRx scored higher than all surveyed companies in the “Efficiency & Appropriateness: Generic & Appropriate Drug Use” and “Outpatient Quality, Safety & Adherence” categories.
The assessment evaluated PBMs in 15 areas across several categories — pharmaceutical management, business practices, member engagement, provider support, and additional programs and services for chronic and other conditions. Each of the 15 areas was scored using a point system, based on factors such as transparency, cost-effectiveness, customization, utilization strategies and third-party accreditation. PerformRx’s industry-leading scores for two areas in the pharmaceutical management category are a result of its focus on clinical effectiveness and superior member outcomes. The company’s top scores were based on several of its clinical capabilities, including its cost-effective drug utilization, its ability to manage long-term medication use, and its ability to avoid drug conflicts and opioid misuse.
"Since its inception, our company's focus has been providing quality and cost-effective pharmaceutical services to our clients for optimal outcomes," said Mesfin Tegenu, M.S., R.Ph., president of PerformRx. "The results from the NBCH PBM assessment demonstrate our member-centric philosophy, which is the driving force for developing and implementing industry-leading clinical programs supported by our superior medication adherence and contact center technology. We are proud to be recognized by NBCH for our splendid work in providing superior pharmacy management services.”
In addition to receiving the highest scores in appropriate drug use and outpatient quality, PerformRx received a perfect score for “Alignment of Benefit Design/Incentives.” The company also received high scores for “Client Support,” “Business Practices and Third-party Accreditations,” and “Member Programs: Coronary Artery Disease, Diabetes and Behavioral Health.” The NBCH PBM Assessment reaffirms PerformRx’s role as a leader in the market through its mix of formulary development, adherence programs and its URAC-accredited drug therapy management (DTM) program, one of only four accredited DTM programs in the United States.
The NBCH PBM Assessment is an evidence-based resource based on the eValue8™ Health Plan Assessment created by business coalitions and employers like Marriott and General Motors to measure and evaluate health plan performance as an accountability tool and basis for conversation. The NBCH PBM Assessment asks health plans and PBMs probing questions about how they manage critical PBM processes that ensure appropriate utilization, reduce and eliminate waste, ensure patient safety, and improve health and health care.
“Pharmaceutical management is the core value of any PBM, and PerformRx excelled in this,” said Brian Klepper, chief executive officer for NBCH. “Purchasers should be aware that PerformRx, like all PBMs that participated in this assessment, deserves praise for its willingness to submit to a national standardized evaluation.”
