Durango, CO (PRWEB) January 29, 2014 -- The Dog and Cat Cancer Fund (DCCFund) announced today that it has exceeded its goal of helping 100 pets by offering over $100,000 in grants in 2013. The organization, a 501c(3) nonprofit created to help make cancer treatment for pets more affordable, offered 109 treatment grants totaling $137,336 between January 1 and December 31, 2013.
According to the American Cancer Foundation, six million dogs and a similar number of cats are diagnosed with cancer each year in the United States. To help in this fight, the primary mission of the DCCFund is to work with pet parents who are in need of financial assistance. The Fund pays their veterinarian for cancer related care, making treatment possible for dogs and cats suffering from cancer.
“We’re grateful to all of our donors including individuals, foundations and corporations,” says Chris Meiering, Chairman of the Board. “We had more applicants in 2013 than we’ve ever had, and due to our donors’ generosity we were able to offer up to $1,500 per pet in treatment assistance, the highest amount of assistance the DCCFund has ever offered. So many lives are touched by canine or feline cancer, and for many people, their pets are family members. We see this reflected in both the donations and steady stream of applications for assistance that we receive. We are happy to have helped over 100 families with pets fighting this terrible disease in 2013 and we hope to help even more pets and families in 2014.”
