Pet Rescue Outfitted with Donated Solatube® Daylighting Systems
Sanford, FL (PRWEB) February 22, 2014 -- Animals at Pet Rescue by Judy (PRBJ) will have a brighter future, now that eight Solatube SolaMaster® Series 330 DS-C units have been installed in the organization’s $750,000-renovated rescue/adoption center.
“I felt like I was outdoors, flooded by this amazing yet very, very bright light. I have never experienced anything like it. The Solatubes have completely transformed the kennel area,” said Susan Elliott-Rink, project coordinator for PRBJ/Save the Tails Project.
Donated by Solatube International, Inc., the installed Solatube Daylighting Systems pipe natural light into the rescue center’s interior while costing nothing to operate. They do this by capturing the sun’s rays at the roof level, transferring them through highly reflective tubing, and evenly dispersing them throughout the space below using a specially designed diffuser.
As a result of the installation, done at no charge by local Solatube Commercial Distributor Specified Architectural Systems, PRBJ will achieve two of its goals: providing animals with healthy daylight and reducing energy costs.
“When I first heard about Solatube, I wasn't exactly sure what to expect. But now when I see them in place and witness how they bathe my entire center in light, I am completely sold! Not only will my animals experience the health and healing benefits of natural sunlight, the money I will save that would've otherwise been wasted on electricity to illuminate the area will be considerable. Solatube is one of the best investments anyone could make,” said Judy Sarullo, PRBJ founder.
Experts agree that natural light is an important element of a healthy kennel environment. In fact, the Association of Shelter Veterinarians recommends that shelter facilities provide regular periods of light and dark to “support the natural (circadian) rhythms of wakefulness and sleep.” Otherwise, animals can suffer from a loss of balance, Seasonal Affective Disorder, hair loss, anxiety, lethargy and even increased aggression.
By providing natural light from dawn to dusk, the Solatube Daylighting Systems are expected to keep the PRBJ animals calmer, balance their daily cycles, reduce their stress, and improve their overall well-being.
“They’ll wake up with natural light, know night from day, and we believe it will dramatically impact the general atmosphere in the entire building. Stressed out dogs create stressed out volunteers and staff. Peaceful, happy animals are far more likely to be adopted, making room for more who need homes,” said Elliott-Rink.
