Peter Jones Enterprise Academy now launches in Havering
Hornchurch, Greater London (PRWEB UK) 23 July 2013 -- Entrepreneurs are not born, they are made - is the message from the Peter Jones Enterprise Academy which has launched in Havering.
Romford MP Andrew Rosindell has welcomed the new Enterprise Academy at the Havering College of Further and Higher Education Ardleigh Green Campus in Hornchurch, Greater London.
Havering College of Further and Higher Education (http://www.havering-college.ac.uk) has joined the national network Peter Jones Enterprise Academies to offer courses and apprenticeships for aspiring young entrepreneurs.
Cutting the ribbon to mark the start of enrolment for the Enterprise courses at the Ardleigh Green Campus, Mr Rosindell said: “Young people are our future and enterprise is our future. Without education, enterprise and a new generation coming forward, our country has no future.
“The experience and opportunity the Peter Jones Enterprise Academy is giving to young people, inspires confidence, self belief and enterprise in the minds of young people to go forward and achieve their goals. Never in my lifetime have we needed more ideas to generate enterprise and initiatives such as this than today. It is initiatives such as this that will give young people the knowledge, the inspiration and the experience to achieve the things they need to achieve to support themselves and their families, and contribute back to the country. If Havering College is going to be the driving force to give young people the opportunity, I am thrilled.”
The pioneering courses will focus on developing and furthering the aspirations of young entrepreneurs who will set up and run their own businesses while gaining accredited qualifications. Students will learn from tutors with real business experience and through work placements, master classes led by entrepreneurs and opportunities to work on real business challenges.
The courses will run at the college’s Ardleigh Green Campus and at its Brentwood Innovation Centre in Brentwood High Street – a move also welcomed by Brentwood and Ongar MP Eric Pickles, Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government.
Gareth Nolan from the Peter Jones Foundation said: “The Academy at Havering aims to help support the economic infrastructure of the UK by giving learners the skills and training they need to develop successful businesses or progress into Higher Education. The Academy works to encourage young people to realise their potential.”
Mr Rosindell and other guests, who included Havering Chamber of Commerce chairman Alex Armstrong, met young entrepreneurs forging ahead with their business ambitions.
Peter Jones Enterprise Academy students from South Essex College, David Brandajs and Gina Austin, spoke about their experiences and successes while two entrepreneurial Havering College students, Sophie Bland and Grant Pearce, showcased their business 2 Equals Graphic Design.
Maria Thompson, Principal of Havering College, said: “We are excited to be working with the Peter Jones Enterprise Academy and the Foundation because we see that as a fusion of two very strong and exciting brands who can come together to support young people and help them with their employability, with their ideas and to help them to make a contribution to the local economy and their own self development.
“We would not be able to get this initiative off the ground were it not for the support of our partners. These include Havering Chamber of Commerce, the London Borough of Havering and local employers. We all recognise what a tough environment is out there and I think it is using those contacts, networks and partnerships, that will allow us all to face that tough economic environment and exploit the opportunities for the economy and for the benefit of the young people involved.”
Applications are invited now from young people aged 16-19 who will be able to study a BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Understanding Enterprise and Entrepreneurship, a BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Enterprise and Entrepreneurship and Apprenticeships in Innovation and Growth at Level 3 and Level 5.
