Peter R. Dottino, MD to Head Division of Gynecologic Oncology at Mount Sinai
New York, NY (PRWEB) November 04, 2013 -- Peter R. Dottino, MD, has been appointed Director of the Division of Gynecologic Oncology in the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Medicine at the Mount Sinai Health System, effective October 1, 2013. He also holds an appointment as Associate Clinical Professor at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.
Dr. Dottino is an internationally-renowned expert in operative laparoscopy and its application to the surgical management of gynecologic cancers, such as ovarian, fallopian tube, vaginal, and cervical cancers. He is currently Director of the Group for Women and Co-Director with John A. Martignetti, MD, of the Ovarian Cancer Translational Research Laboratory at Mount Sinai, a genomic research program dedicated to uncovering the genetic basis of ovarian cancer.
Dr. Dottino previously served as the Director of Gynecologic Oncology at Mount Sinai and also is one of the founders of the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund, the oldest and largest charity in the United States funding ovarian cancer research, and of the Woman to Woman Program at Mount Sinai. It provides survivor-led support to women with gynecologic cancer and their families.
He currently serves on the Board as Vice President of Woman to Woman, an organization addressing the cancer needs of women globally. Along with Drs. Dottino and Segna, Dr. Beddoe cofounded Woman to Woman.
Dr. Dottino’s partners, Rudy Albert Segna, MD, the new Associate Director of Gynecologic Oncology, and Ann Marie Beddoe, MD, the new Director of the Gynecologic Oncology Chemotherapy Infusion Service, will join him here as fulltime faculty members. All three are prolific researchers who have published in many medical journals, and actively lectured nationally and internationally.

As director, Dr. Dottino will develop and implement plans to enhance gynecologic oncology’s clinical, educational and research capabilities.
Dr. Dottino received his medical degree at Georgetown Medical School in Washington, DC, and completed his chief residency at Downstate Medical Center/Kings County Hospital, and a fellowship in gynecologic oncology at The Mount Sinai Hospital.
Dr. Segna was awarded his medical degree at New York University School of Medicine, and completed a chief residency at the Naval Medical Center in San Diego, CA and a fellowship at Mount Sinai. He also served as the Director of Gynecologic Oncology and the Colposcopy Service at the Naval Medical Center in Portsmouth, Virginia, where he also was the founder and Director of the Women’s Health Promotion and Primary Care Service at the Naval Medical Center.
Dr. Beddoe has been Assistant Professor in Gynecologic Oncology at Mount Sinai, and previously served as the Director of the Gynecologic Oncology Services at City Hospital in Elmhurst, NY. She was awarded her medical degree from the State University of New York Downstate Medical School, where she also completed residency training and a fellowship. Dr. Beddoe completed a fellowship in clinical nutrition at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York. Passionately committed to global health, Dr. Beddoe recently completed her studies for a Master’s degree in Public Health at the Global Public Health Institute at NYU. She has traveled extensively to West Africa and South Africa, promoting education and awareness of women’s health. She has pioneered the development of breast and cervical cancer screening in these countries, a charity dedicated to addressing health disparities in women’s cancer care globally.
