Petroleum Engineers Reaping the Benefits of America's Oil and Gas Boom
(PRWEB) July 31, 2013 -- We've previously talked about how the expansion of the domestic oil and gas industry is generating benefits for people and communities in many different parts of the country. One group that is reaping particularly strong benefits from the uptick in oil and gas production is petroleum engineers and students who are studying to join the field.
On CNNMoney's 2012 list of the "100 best jobs in America," petroleum engineer was ranked 32. Gladney Darroh, president of Piper-Morgan Associates Personnel Consultants, which specializes in recruiting engineers for oil and gas firms, told the news source that there is currently an "all out war for talent" being waged by companies in the sector, which has driven up salaries significantly.
"Right now the hardest individuals to recruit are people who have anywhere from five to 15 years of experience," Darroh said. "That's a real sweet spot right now"
High starting salary not the only benefit
The National Association of Colleges and Employers recently reported that for this year's graduates, the highest starting salaries are going to those who majored in petroleum engineering. On average, these individuals are raking in $93,500 per year to start, which is more than double the average for all 2013 college graduates—slightly under $45,000—and almost 50 percent higher than the average for all engineering majors, which is less than $63,000.
According to CNNMoney, the so-called talent war is international in scope, with demand for experienced engineers expected to continue rising rapidly in both developed and emerging economies. Dane Goeneveld, a director at the engineering recruitment firm NES Global Talent, told the news source that his organization is currently "being pulled in a lot of directions" as a result of the intensifying competition for talent.
With companies hard-pressed to retain talented technical professionals, it can be beneficial for well operators to partner with drilling fluid specialists to ensure that their properties are achieving maximum production. In addition to providing a company with access to top technical talent at an affordable price, this strategy helps guarantee that the organization's internal staff can remain focused on their core responsibilities.
Rapid Drilling provides a range of solutions that reduce friction downhole during the drilling process by as much as 70 percent, which greatly facilitates well completion in challenging plays.
