PH Patients Share Extraordinary Stories as Pulmonary Hypertension Association Travels to Atlanta for PHA On the Road
Silver Spring, Md. (PRWEB) June 10, 2015 -- Who:
The Pulmonary Hypertension Association – the country’s leading pulmonary hypertension association that works to find ways to prevent and cure pulmonary hypertension (PH) – a disease of the lungs that affects the functioning of the heart and can lead to right heart failure. Without treatment, the average survival rate is less than three years.
What:
PHA On The Road – A free full-day regional education forum that delivers much needed PH education and support to patients and families in areas close to home. The forums feature interactive presentations, education sessions and networking opportunities with other patients, caregivers and medical professionals.
When:
Saturday, June 20, 2015
8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Where:
JW Marriott Atlanta Buckhead
3300 Lenox Road NE
Atlanta, GA 30326
Why:
PHA designed the on the Road program to reach PH patients, caregivers and medical professionals across the country every year, especially those who are not able to travel the PHA’s Biennial International Conference and Scientific Sessions.
PHA’s mission is to find ways to prevent and cure pulmonary hypertension and provide hope for the community through support education, research, and advocacy and awareness. PHA does this by connecting and working together with the entire PH community of patients, families and medical professionals. The community of treating physicians has grown from 100 in 1994 to more than 10,000 today. PH has as many or more treatments than all but three of the top rare diseases, growing from one treatment in 1996 to 12 in 2014. Three of those treatments were approved in the last quarter of 2013.
The PHA On the Road program was developed by a medical planning committee led by regional co-chairs, Dr. Micah Fisher of Emory University School of Medicine; Dr. Usama Kanaan of Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta; and Dr. Chad Miller of Piedmont Physicians Georgia Lung Associates.
