The Georgia Pharmacy Association was established in 1875, after a small group of Georgia pharmacists invited all the other pharmacists and pharmacy professionals to a meeting in Macon, GA. Their intention was to form an association to keep abreast of technological advancements and legal precedence, while promoting fraternity, friendship, and professional bonds between pharmacists and pharmacy professionals across the strata of the industry.
The idea was well received, not only by pharmacy professionals, but by the public at large as well. Newspapers throughout the state published a notice about the meeting at no charge. Many of the state’s railroads provided reduced fares to pharmacists traveling to Macon from anywhere in the state.
At least 20 pharmacy professionals were in attendance at that first gathering, which garnered the support of the Macon Medical Society as well as the Georgia State Board of Health. A constitution was proposed and adopted, and the Association was born.
To this day, it's a model for similar associations across the nation.
