Phish has released 16 studio albums since joining together in the early 1980s. Their debut release was Phish (The White Tape), which their diehard fans are most proud of. Their second album began to make new fans take notice of their skills. In 1989, they released Junta, which was certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America. That album began a streak of six albums to be certified at least gold by the RIAA and overall, the group has 12 albums or movie releases that has been certified gold or platinum.
The thing about Phish when it comes to fans that rely on getting their music only from mainstream radio is that they may not know Phish all too well. The group has released only about a dozen singles in their nearly 30 years together, but several charted on various American charts including “Down with Disease,” “Free,” “Heavy Things,” “The Connection,” and “Backwards Down the Number Line.”
Phish features an eccentric sound that is a mix of numerous genres and styles including jazz, rock, progressive rock, funk, folk, bluegrass, psychedelic tock, hard rock and blues. Their unique mix of styles makes live shows entertaining for fans, especially considering the fact that they allow their shows to go wherever they feel it for that night. This lets them change the set list at will during a show and makes for an interesting experience for their fans.
