PHIUS and PHAUS Present Passive Building Place at Greenbuild 2013
Chicago, IL (PRWEB) November 11, 2013 -- The Passive House Institute US (PHIUS) and Passive House Alliance US (PHAUS) will again exhibit and anchor the Passive Building Place at the Greenbuild 2013 exhibit hall in Philadelphia, November 20-21. PHIUS and PHAUS will be at Booth 1423. Adjacent exhibts at Passive Place will include leading passive building component and tool manufacturers including PowerWise Systems (1425), UltimateAir (1522), Yaro Windows and Doors (1524), The Energy Conservatory (1427), European Architectural Supply (1530), Passive Science (1431), and Huber Engineered Woods (1429).
Other PHAUS sponsor/partners that will also be at Greenbuild include Marvin Windows and Doors (1337) Certainteed-St. Gobain (1411). Prosoco (3049), Mitsubishi Heating and Cooling, Tremco Sealants (601), Intus Windows (2955), Wasco (4242) and Zehnder America (1955).
The growing presence of passive building at the show reflects an overall trend: passive building is moving from boutique to best practice, thanks largely to the passive building community’s efforts to adapt passive building principles to North America’s varied climate zones. Another key factor: Quality Assurance and Quality Control. The PHIUS + Certification Program launched in 2012, adding RESNET quality assurance/quality control standards as well as a HERS Index Score to the process. Starting in 2013, PHIUS+ projects also earn U.S. DOE Challenge Home rating. As a result, submissions for PHIUS+ Certification have grown exponentially. Other passive building trends at Greenbuild 2013:
• Multifamily and commercial passive building projects are growing fast, evidenced by multiple case studies presented at the recent 8th Annual North American Passive House conference in Pittsburgh.
• Retrofits are rocking, too! Retrofits can be problematic, but CPHCs (PHIUS Certified Passive House Consultants) and building scientists are solving the problems—and single-family and large-scale retrofits are a growing opportunity.
• The market is taking note. Efforts to mainstream passive and other green building ratings into the MLS system and into the world of finance are gaining momentum.
