Phoenix Car Accident Attorney at Israel & Gerity, PLLC, Comments on Impact of DUI on Victims and Families
Phoenix, AZ (PRWEB) March 18, 2015 -- Phoenix, AZ personal injury lawyer Kyle A. Israel of Israel & Gerity, PLLC, said today a news report about the impact of DUI on car insurance rates in Arizona illustrates yet another reason to avoid drinking and driving.
Israel commented on a Feb. 20 article in ABC 15 Arizona titled “Arizona face high car insurance rates after DUI.”
“As personal injury attorneys who have represented victims of drunk driving, we have seen the devastating impact of these crashes,” Israel said. “We know that someone’s reckless decision to drink and drive can have grave consequences. An accident caused by an impaired driver can result in a serious injury or a fatality. The costs related to a catastrophic injury or fatality can skyrocket. Because we have get to know victims and their families and understand what they go through, we call for aggressive action against drunk drivers.”
Israel said expensive insurance rates for drunk drivers may make people think twice before getting behind the wheel while impaired.
According to the ABC 15 report, an analysis from insurancequotes.com reveals that Arizona drivers with DUIs can face over a 100 percent increase on car insurance costs, which is one of the most expensive increases in the United States. A DUI in Arizona can jack up an individual’s insurance rates by 104 percent, which is 12 percent higher than the national average, according to the ABC 15 report.
In Arizona, a reckless driving violation could result in a 59 percent hike in car insurance rates, which is not as high as the national average of 83 percent, according to ABC 15.
Israel said drivers can face other consequences if they cause accidents while engaging in risky and negligent behavior.
“Drivers need to remember that if they are drunk or reckless behind the wheel and cause an accident, they may ruin someone else’s life,” Israel said. “They may face more than just higher insurance rates. They may face a criminal charge. They also may be named as a defendant in a civil lawsuit. Victims and families who lose loved ones in accidents have rights. Our attorneys fight aggressively on behalf of people who have been injured or lost loved ones through no fault of their own. Our goal is to hold the negligent individual accountable and help the victims and families get the compensation they need.”
