PhoneNumber.us.org to Launch Initiative to Keep Stalkers from Using Their Service
Chicago, IL (PRWEB) April 28, 2014 -- PhoneNumber.us.org is making a major effort to make sure that abusive people do not use their service to stalk or harass potential victims, the company announced yesterday.
“We want our service to help people and not hurt them,” a PhoneNumber.us.org spokesman said. “It's come to our attention that people could abuse our service in order to stalk or harass people. So, we've looked into the possibility and taken measures to make it extremely difficult for them to do so.”
PhoneNumber.us.org spoke with police officials and domestic violence experts in order to find out what they could do to block stalkers from using the site, he said.
“What we discovered is that there are a number of common red flags that indicate when someone is using a search service to stalk someone,” he said. “And in talking to our IT staff, we learned that our search system could be programmed to recognize those red flags and cut off search access as soon as they pop up. We had them immediately build those safeguards into our search system.”
At the same time, PhoneNumber.us.org has created a policy where as soon as they suspect someone is trying to use their service for stalking reasons, police will be notified.
“We think it is our obligation to make sure our service is used and not abused,” he said. “Therefore, we felt that putting these measures into place was the only responsible thing to do.”
