PhysicianLoans and Society of Osteopathic Medicine Foundation Announce Andrew Taylor Still Memorial Scholarship Winners
Columbus, Ohio (PRWEB) April 09, 2015 -- PhysicianLoans – a provider of home mortgage loans for medical professionals and the SOMA Foundation – a 501(c)3 affiliate that works in conjunction with the Society of Osteopathic Medicine Association today announced the winners of this year’s Andrew Taylor Still Memorial Scholarships.
The SOMA Foundation distributed the scholarship information, created the grading rubric and picked this year’s winners that were announced in March at the SOMA convention at the Omni Shoreham in Washington DC. SOMA leaders, general members and pre-SOMA members (undergraduate students) made up the bulk of the convention attendance where the following winners were announced:
• Scott R. Brown, OMS-III at WVSOM
• Daniel Nguyen, OMS IC at PCOM
• Taisel Suzuki, OMS IV at ATSU-KCOM
• Mukarram Razvi, OMS IV at RowanSOM
Scholarships are awarded to four winners each year who utilize Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine (OMM) in clinical practice. Andrew Taylor Still (founder of osteopathic medicine) focused heavily on utilizing a holistic approach to his practice of medicine. Osteopathic physicians are taught to use their hands to help guide them to the proper diagnosis and can then use a variety of manipulative techniques to help relieve signs and symptoms of the patient.
“Thanks to the generous support by PhysicianLoans, the scholarships help relieve some of the financial burden accumulated by osteopathic medical students during medical school, “explained Jonathan Bardahl, SOMA Foundation Director of Scholarships & Grants.
“We’ve been a long time supporter of the AT Still Scholarship program,” said Tal Frank, president of PhysicianLoans. “We recognize the financial sacrifice and burden that extended education and training require of our nation’s doctors, and PhysicianLoans honors that sacrifice by giving back to those who help us lead healthier lives.”
The next cycle of the AT Still Memorial Scholarships is scheduled to open sometime in November, with an application deadline set for January 2016. Application information can be found at: http://www.somafoundation.org Applicants can submit applications at the online site or by email at scholarships-grants(at)studentdo(dot)com.
