Physicians Meet with SMA in New York to Study New Medical Updates
Birmingham, AL (PRWEB) October 09, 2015 -- Southern Medical Association (SMA) will hold its 12th Annual Conference on Medical Dilemmas in Patient Care: 2015 Update at the Crowne Plaza Times Square Manhattan Hotel in New York, December 18-20, 2015. The event will focus on four areas of medicine - cardiovascular, infectious, liver, and pulmonary diseases. Conference attendees will receive up to 16 AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM designed to meet their medical licensing or professional requirements. Dr. Jan Basile is a Professor of Medicine in the Department of Internal Medicine/Geriatrics at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) and treats high-risk patients with hypertension and hyperlipidemia at the University’s Seinsheimer Clinic. Dr. Basile has been a research participant in numerous large clinical trials on management of blood pressure, a key interest of his practice. Dr. Basile’s conference lectures will focus on hypertension, new cholesterol guidelines, and heart failure.
As conference chair, Dr. Basile has assembled a world-class faculty of experienced, practicing physicians including Arun J. Sanyal, MBBS, MD, FAASLD, the Charles Caravati Professor of Medicine in the Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition at the VCU Medical Center and the Executive Director, Education Core, CCTR for the Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia.
Dr. Sanyal will lecture on hepatitis C, the jaundiced patient, and common medications and their effects on liver function tests. The pulmonary diseases focus on COPD, pulmonary hypertension, and interstitial lung disease will be addressed by Charlie Strange, MD, FCCP. Dr. Strange is Professor of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, South Carolina. Dr. Andrew Urban will lecture on infectious diseases such as HIV for the primary care clinician, hot topics in the hot tropics, and adult immunizations. Dr. Urban is an Associate Professor of Medicine (CHS) in the Division of Infectious Diseases at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health in Madison.
