Physio Focuses on Fall Prevention Awareness
Exton, PA (PRWEB) September 23, 2015 -- Physiotherapy Corporation, a leading national provider of outpatient physical and occupational rehabilitation and prosthetic and orthotic services is participating in the National Falls Prevention Awareness Day on September 23, 2015. National Falls Prevention Awareness Day is sponsored by the National Council on Aging (NCOA) and has occurred on the first day of fall for the last 7 years. NCOA estimates 2.5 million falls-related injuries are treated annually, which include 734,000 hospitalizations and nearly 22,000 deaths.
“We educate our patients about the risk of falls and how to prevent them,” says Hank Balavender, PT and CEO of Physio. “As part of our participation in the Falls Prevention Awareness Day, we provide the physician community with our Balance & Fall Prevention Guidelines to share with their patients to provide fall prevention activities and daily balance exercises.”
The CDC reported that 20 to 30% of people who fall suffer moderate to severe injuries and fear of falling can be just as debilitating. “Falls Prevention Awareness Day is the perfect opportunity for physicians to talk with their patients about ways to avoid falls and how physical therapy can strengthen muscles, improve balance and increase flexibility. We can help our patients improve their mobility and their self-confidence,” says Balavender.
