Pine Mountain - Cloverdale Peak: Sonoma in the City in SOCAL
Cloverdale, California (PRWEB) January 29, 2014 -- Vignerons with vineyard designate wines from the Pine Mountain - Cloverdale Peak Winegrowers Association in northern Sonoma County are excited to be pouring their wines for the first time this winter at "Sonoma in the City", a Grand Tasting of Sonoma County’s dazzling producers featuring over 100 wines from 15 distinctive regions.
These sold out industry focused events in Beverly Hills (March 4th) and San Diego (March 5th) will provide the participants (Over 200 trade & media and 300 consumers attending respective events in Southern California) their best opportunity yet to appreciate the unique nature of the ultra premium grapes grown and wines produced from the higher elevations of this recently established AVA. Several nationally known estates have/lease vineyards or purchase grapes from Pine Mountain including Kendall Jackson, Francis Ford Coppola and Benziger Family.
The Pine Mountain-Cloverdale Peak wines being poured in LA and San Diego are: Captûre Wines, Miro Cellars, Imagery Estate Winery, Respite Wines and Ampère Wines. These premium wines are made by widely acclaimed winemakers like May-Britt and Denis Malbec, Thomas Rivers Brown, Joe Benziger and Miro Tcholakov, many of whom won medals at the recent 2014 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition.
Barry Hoffner, President, Pine Mountain-Cloverdale Peak Winegrowers Association, expressed the appreciation of the AVA to the Sonoma County Vintners and Winegrowers associations for holding these events. "These events give us the opportunity, not only to share our wines, but also the history of grape-growing on Pine Mountain which dates back to the mid-1800s. They also allows us to tell the story of the uniqueness and special features of our terroir and our community." As an example of that community, Split Rock Springs Ranch, a non-winegrower member of the AVA will be highlighting its organic olive oil at the event.
Pine Mountain - Cloverdale Peak Appellation is one of the highest elevation grape-growing regions in California. It is situated on the northern border of Sonoma County and features grapes grown at elevations between 1800' and 2600' above sea level. The very high elevation of the mountain affects fog cover, hours of daylight, daytime and nighttime temperatures, rainfall and wind - virtually every climatic element influencing wine grape production. The AVA rises from 1,600 feet at its lowest point to 3,000 feet at its peak and has grapes growing primarily at 1,800 feet and higher.
