NEW YORK (PRWEB) November 17, 2017 -- WHO & WHAT: Dr. Ruth Simmons, the first African American president of an Ivy League university, will be in New York City to support Prairie View A&M Marching Storm’s first appearance in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, just weeks prior to her officially taking the helm of Prairie View A&M as university president this December. Simmons, a leader and distinguished administrator in the field of higher education has held top roles at Brown University, serving as president from 2001-2012, Princeton, Smith, Spelman and USC. After serving as interim president of PVAMU for five months, Simmons plans to continue to enhance PVAMU, a historically black university in the Houston area, using her expertise educating students and growing Ivy League institutions, women’s universities and HBCUs across the country for more than 30 years.
This will be the PVAMU Marching Storm’s first appearance at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. The PVAMU Marching Storm was selected from 175 applicants as one of 10 bands to march in the 2017 holiday spectacle and chosen to lead the parade.
