Pioneer Millworks Reclaims Foundry Maple from Notable Industrial Buildings Across the Nation
Farmington, New York (PRWEB) October 31, 2014 -- A leader in reclaimed wood products, Pioneer Millworks wood sources include a variety of industrial, agricultural, and educational structures with interesting histories. During the Summer and early Autumn of 2014 Pioneer Millworks’ acquisition team sourced and reclaimed over 55,000 board feet of Foundry Maple from industrial buildings and factories throughout the United States.
“Factories that manufactured clothing, sewing machines, crayons, gloves – everything imaginable, used this hardwood as flooring. Each batch of reclaimed Foundry Maple comes with its own quirky character – random wear marks, paint splatters, and original distressing – from the various locations where it is salvaged,” explains Jered Slusser, reclaimed wood design expert at Pioneer Millworks], reclaimed wood design expert at Pioneer Millworks. “We love this wood for its variety and unfailingly interesting history.”
When the American Crayon Company factory in Sandusky, Ohio closed in 2002, Pioneer Millworks rescued the wooden bones of the building, over 24,000 board feet, before the wood went to waste. The wood from this factory endured thousands of footfalls, heavy machinery, and a smattering of colorful wax crayon materials giving the wood a unique character singular to this particular factory source.
The Edmont Manufacturing Facility, a glove manufacturer, in Coshocton, Ohio handed over 18,000 square feet of tongue & groove square edge Foundry Maple, and an additional 300 square feet with original grey paint.
The latest batch of Foundry Maple reclaimed by Pioneer Millworks in September came from an outdated Van Heusen factory where 13,226 board feet was salvaged. Part of this batch has recently found a home as flooring at the newly opened Guitar Center in NYC.
Pioneer Millworks de-nails the Foundry planks for use as paneling, flooring, fixtures and more for commercial and Residential Gallery spaces. Often Foundry Maple can be put back into service with little or no finishing, and is milled to customer specifications. This product’s coloring ranges from browns and golds to greys and the occasional lavender tones, and is full of texture, and occasionally original paint.
