Piper Fire Protection Employee Deemed National Craft Championships Winner
Largo, FL (PRWEB) May 30, 2014 -- Associated Builders and Contractors Inc., a national construction industry trade association, named Paul Gibson, certified sprinkler installation apprentice at Piper Fire Protection, as a National Craft Championships winner at its competition in Birmingham, Alabama on May 2, 2014.
This annual competition celebrates the training and educational efforts of Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) and its member firms. Every year, each of the ABC's different chapters compete all across the country in local and then national contests. In order to qualify for participation, Paul Gibson needed to have a high GPA, take a written exam, complete a schematic for a sprinkler rise, and then build it to the highest quality.
A field of 156 trainees competed for the top honors across 13 different crafts, including carpentry, electrical-industrial, electrical-residential, fire sprinkler, HVAC, instrumentation fitting, insulation, millwright, pipefitting, plumbing, sheet metal, welding-pipe, and welding-structural. First, participants were required to take an intense, two-hour written examination, and then compete in daylong, hands-on practical performance tests.
Due to a massive labor shortage, many candidates aren't being trained properly. This is why Piper Fire Protection is a huge proponent of apprenticeship programs and any events that promote such educational opportunities. The company hopes that such events will help people to become better trained and appropriately educated in their respective field.
This event gave Piper Fire Protection the chance to show just how accurately and thoroughly educated their employees are on safety, correct procedures, and efficiency and allowed them to express just how important these things are in the field.
