PlacerGROWN wineries harvest 50 awards from the 2015 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition
AUBURN, Calif (PRWEB) February 10, 2015 -- Coming from a region with a rich tradition in winemaking, Placer County Wine Trail wineries have much to celebrate. For the second year in a row, regional wineries won 50 awards at the 2015 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition. Recognized as the largest competition of American wines in the world, this year’s event received a record 6,417 entries. The competition’s judges included over 80 wine experts within the media, trade, hospitality and education industries.

Placer County 2015 San Francisco Chronicle wine competition winners include:
• Bear River Winery: One silver and one bronze medal
• Ciotti Cellars: Two silver and one bronze medal
• Davis Dean Cellars: Two bronze medals
• Dono dal Cielo: Two silver medals
• Fawnridge Winery: Two silver and four bronze medals
• Le Casque: Three silver and one bronze medal
• Lone Buffalo Vineyards: One silver and one bronze medal
• Mt. Vernon Winery: Two gold, four silver and three bronze medals
• Pescatore Winery: One silver medal
• Popie Wines: One silver and two bronze medals
• Rock Hill Winery: One bronze medal
• Secret Ravine Vineyard & Winery: Two silver and one bronze medal
• Wise Villa Winery: Two double gold, two gold, three silver and five bronze medals

ABOUT THE SAN FRANCISCO CHRONICLE WINE COMPETITION:
In 2000, the Cloverdale Citrus Fair entered into a title naming sponsorship agreement with the San Francisco Chronicle newspaper. The wine competition was renamed the San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition with the award tasting of the medal winning wines to take place in San Francisco. It began to grow and prosper; in 2006 over 900 United States wineries entered a record breaking 3,318 wine entries for the competition from wine regions throughout America. The San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition became the largest wine competition of American wines in the world. It continued to grow and entries rapidly rose from 3,800 wines entered in 2007 to a staggering 4,913 entries from all across the country in 2010. Today, 60 prestigious experts within the media, trade, hospitality and education industries from around the country join together to judge these wines each year and because of their diligence the San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition continues to hold the title of the largest competition of American Wines in the World.
