Ottawa, ON (PRWEB) January 27, 2016 -- PlaSmart Inc. sales of The Original DoodleArt® Adult Coloring Kits have climbed rapidly since its 2012 acquisition of DoodleArt distribution rights. PlaSmart CEO Tim Kimber attributes the speedy increase in sales to the adult coloring craze that is currently sweeping North America. “We can barely keep up with demand.” says Tim Kimber. “We sold out over the recent holiday period and our next shipment is not expected at our warehouse until the end of March.”
This isn’t the first time that DoodleArt has tapped into people’s hunger to express themselves colorfully and creatively. DoodleArt led the way in a much earlier North American “Do your own thing in color” fad that quickly became the “in-thing” for people of all ages: young teens, university students, singles, families, and seniors. Many will remember those intricate, color-it-yourself posters that decorated walls, dorm rooms, and cafes around the globe in the early 1970s and 1980s.
Today, adult coloring is one of the hottest trends sweeping North America. Touted to help people slow down, relax, and combat stress, coloring may tap into the comfort one remembers when coloring as a child, and may provide a creative outlet for today’s harried adults.
PlaSmart is pleased to announce that it will add three new titles to its 2016 DoodleArt line: Bugs N Birds, Lady of Feathers, and The Sea. Its four existing full-size poster kits, along with one Mini-Kit, remain top sellers. Each DoodleArt Adult Coloring Kit includes one high quality 24” x 34” poster, and twelve dual-tip markers (calligraphy and fine tips). The Mini-Kit contains four 11” x 14” posters and twelve duel-tip markers.
DoodleArt History
In 1972 Glenn Anderson hit on the idea of coloring a black and white line drawing called "Ecology", and recognized that the poster, partnered with the vibrant colours of felt pens, provided immediate creative satisfaction. The family (father Frank and mother Jean) trademarked and produced the DoodleArt kits in Vancouver, BC, kicking off the first color-it-yourself craze and one of Canada's great business success stories. The Ecology print alone would sell 1,000,000 copies around the world. Over the next five years many new titles were introduced, and DoodleArt sales expanded into sixteen countries, including the U.K., Europe, Japan, Mexico, and Australia.
