PlayaBuilder Announces the First Hurricane Proof Home Design in the Riviera Maya
Playa del Carmen, Mexico (PRWEB) January 21, 2014 -- Since its founding in 2005, Playa Builder has been on the cutting edge of design and engineering in Playa del Carmen. Now it is proud to introduce the first “Hurricane Proof” home in the luxury, golf course community of PlayaCar, just south of the city.
The homes have been designed from the ground up to combat storms, with steel reinforced concrete walls and the military grade Astroguard Hurricane Protection system on all glazed openings.
“But don’t let this home’s strength fool you, it was designed for luxury and entertaining,” says Jerry Hierra, Superintendent at Playa Builder. “Exterior stone work, granite imported from Brazil, a swimming pool with a lounging area is something that was inspired in Miami Beach, there is nothing like this home in the Riviera Maya.”
Both of the homes are situated on the award winning golf course designed by Robert Von Hagge, which is widely recognized as the most challenging in the entire Mexican Caribbean.
But why did the company decide to make Hurricane Protection a focal point of the home? Jerry explains: “Storms are becoming stronger and more frequent. There is always a concern, especially from our American clients that when a storm comes they will not be ready. We feel by answering this concern up front, the client can concentrate on what they want most, to enjoy the home in Paradise.”
To make a home “Hurricane Proof,” the structure of the home has been heavily reinforced. Recently, many homes have been built in PlayaCar from Pre-fabricated molds. These are not as strong as a traditional steel and concrete structure, and make the walls and ceilings vulnerable to wind loads. A home that is built with storms in mind takes this into account, and also covers all glazed openings and doors with patented military grade hurricane protection supplied by Hurricane Solution, a local supplier.
“We only do business with Hurricane Solution,” says Hierra. “It is the only system that exists that actually protects the openings of a home from the direct force of hurricanes. By incorporating it from the beginning, we are taking this unknown factor out of the equation.”
In the Caribbean the only unknown has always been the threat of a hurricane or tropical storm. Now even that has been taken care of.
The guard gated community of Playacar where the homes are being built is home to many expatriates, mainly from Canada and the United States.
The homes will be available sometime around mid summer.
