The Penguins are 46-19-5, having gone 6-3-1 in their last 10 games, but they will be tested this week as they take on the West-leading Blues. St Louis, now two in the power rankings, were just shutout 4-0 by the Blackhawks and lost 4-1 to the Flyers on Saturday. Both teams need a win.

At three in the current power rankings, the surging San Jose Sharks are now 46-18-8 and have overtaken the Ducks in the Pacific Division and are one point behind the Blues for top spot in the West. The Sharks will snag a playoff spot with their next victory. The remaining teams in this week’s power rankings include the Chicago Blackhawks at 41-15-15 who are in a fight for home ice advantage with the seventh ranked Colorado Avalanche, now 44-21-6: The Avs are 4-1-0 against the Blackhawks this season, but currently trail the Blackhawks by three points with eleven games to play.
Ranked eight, the Tampa Bay Lightning now stand at 39-24-8, who are 5-2-3 in their last ten games. Next are the Toronto Maple Leafs with a 36-28-8 record who are dealing with goalie issues. The Montreal Canadians round out the top ten at 39-26-7. They are slated to take on Tampa Bay in the first round of the playoffs.
With the realignment of divisions this year, instead of 15 teams in each conference, there are now 16 teams in the East and 14 in the West that are grouped into four divisions: Atlantic, Metropolitan, Central and Pacific. The top three teams in each division automatically qualify, accounting for 12 of the league's 16 playoff berths.
The final four spots, two per conference, go to the teams with the highest point totals who finish outside of their division's top three. These are the wild cards. This format allows for the possibility that any given division could send as few as three teams to the playoffs, and as many as five.
Other key matchups this week include the Blackhawks versus the Bruins Thursday night in Boston, while the San Jose Sharks head to Colorado to play the Avs on Saturday afternoon.
