Playtabase Builds Media, Critical Rapport at Wearable Technology Conference and Expo
Minneapolis, Minnesota (PRWEB) March 28, 2014 -- Playtabase’s reemo technology was recognized by news organizations as one of the best systems at the Wearable Technology Conference and Expo when Playtabase presented there this week. The event was the largest wearable technology conference in the world.
The Guardian ranked reemo™ as one the best “wearable gizmos” at the show, while Gadget Gestures listed it as one of the top three new wearable gadgets. Wired.co.uk featured reemo’s inspiration and story in their article about wearable tech in healthcare. CNET also wrote about Playtabase.
Playtabase CEO and co-founder Muhammad Abdurrahman spoke at the conference on the history of the internet and how disability and limited mobility played a fundamental role in the development of reemo™.
“I asked the audience how many of them know people with a disability and almost half of them raised their hands,” Abdurrahman said. “The world is made for people who have two arms and two hands, and that brings up special challenges. We aren’t interested in replicating the functionality a smartphone has.”
Abdurrahman also participated in a panel discussion on the lifestyle of wearables. Playtabase hosted a booth and revealed the design for the box reemo™ will be sold in.

Playtabase was founded in 2012 by University of Minnesota students to create “fun solutions to reinvent your world.” After CEO Muhammad Abdurrahman witnessed his father struggle with a debilitating stroke, he was inspired to create reemo™ to assist his father with day-to-day tasks. The reemo controller is a wrist-worn mouse that enables users to point and control electronics around them through intuitive gestures.
Even in its infancy, Playtabase has been honored with several awards and accomplishments. In March, Abdurrahman spoke about the history of the internet and the development of reemo™ in London, England at the Wearable Technologies Conference and Expo, where reemo™ was recognized by news organizations as one of the best devices there. Abdurrahman also presented at SXSW in Austin, Texas in March and at the 11th Wearable Technologies Conference in Munich, Germany in January.
The startup won the AgePower Tech Search in January 2014, and as a winner, they will collaborate on a 6-month pilot with Ecumen customers and employees. Playtabase was also a finalist in the 2013 Minnesota Cup, the largest state business competition in the United States.
