The Internet of Everything
With 25 billion devices connecting to the Internet by 2020, IoE holds the potential to transform industries, economies and everyday lives. IoE is already here, with an increasing number of connected wearables, home appliances, security cameras, lighting, entertainment systems and more. To enable these smart devices – all of which collect and report data for analysis in cloud data centers – new innovations in networking are required to handle the crush of data moving from devices across mobile networks to data centers and back.
IoE devices are projected to generate exabytes of unstructured and structured data every day. To support the massive amount of data that needs to be transported, stored and analyzed, cloud infrastructures must be able to reach new levels of scale while providing flexibility, high availability and security. For service providers and enterprises, designing cloud infrastructures to deliver services for mission-critical business applications and workloads is critical.
However, laying a foundation for IoE to start on-boarding devices is also needed. To enable the scale and flexibility required for business and IoE workloads, software-defined networking (SDN) and network functions virtualization (NFV) are critical enabling technologies.
At Mobile World Congress, PLUMgrid will show how these technologies can be leveraged at scale to pave a path to the IoE-enabled cloud.
