PMG Research Investigators Lead the Way for Enrollment in Osteoarthritis of the Knee Research
WINSTON-SALEM, NC (PRWEB) July 31, 2013 -- PMG Research, Inc. announced today the success of its sites in enrolling clinical research studies in osteoarthritis (OA) of the knee. PMG Research, Inc. (PMG), headquartered in Winston-Salem, NC, is a network of 10 wholly-owned clinical research sites located in North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee. Currently, six of the locations in the PMG network are participating in a novel study of a homeopathic combination medicine for moderate to severe knee pain due to osteoarthritis. Of the 38 sites across the United States participating in the study, the six PMG Research facilities are in the top ten, and include the first-, second-, and fourth-highest enrolling sites.
Osteoarthritis is the most common form of arthritis, affecting an estimated 27 million Americans, and most commonly occurs in the weight-bearing joints in the knees, hips, and spine. According to clinicaltrials.gov, there are currently 171 clinical research studies in the U.S. actively recruiting participants with osteoarthritis, creating intense competition for patients with this condition who are willing to participate in clinical research. The high number of participants among PMG sites is a testament to the quality of care and the engagement of the physicians with their patients.
"Because osteoarthritis affects such a large proportion of the population, coupled with the facts that it worsens over time and there is no cure, it is important that we continuously explore new ways to treat OA," explains Dr. George Raad of PMG Research of Charlotte and the top enroller for this study. "Clinical research is a way for people to actively participate in the development of new treatments, and receive access to medical options and medications not yet available through any other means."
PMG Research has locations in Charlotte, Salisbury, Hickory, Winston-Salem, Raleigh, Cary, and Wilmington, NC; Bristol and Knoxville, TN; and Charleston, SC. The osteoarthritis of the knee study is being conducted in Charlotte, Salisbury, Winston-Salem, Raleigh, Cary and Knoxville.
