PMWC 2015 Silicon Valley Gathers Preeminent Leaders in Personalized Medicine and Honors Dr. Craig Venter, Dr. Ron Davis and Dr. Dennis Lo

(PRWEB) January 19, 2015 -- January 19, 2015 – The Personalized Medicine World Conference, PMWC 2015, to be held January 26-28, 2015 in Silicon Valley, is co-hosted by Stanford Health Care and Oracle Health Sciences and brings together key opinion leaders and stakeholders in the personalized medicine field. One thousand participants will focus on Next Gen Sequencing (NGS) and its clinical utilization, immunotherapy, biomarker discovery, research on longevity and aging, the regulatory landscape and the commercial opportunity of personalized medicine. PMWC will honor three visionaries in the field of personalized medicine whose work has led to major advances in the field.

For the Pioneer Award, the Conference’s program committee has chosen to honor Dr. Dennis Lo, Director of the Li Ka Shing Institute of Health Sciences at The Chinese University of Hong Kong. Dr. Lo and his team discovered the presence of cell-free fetal DNA in the plasma of pregnant women, enabling non-invasive prenatal testing for common chromosomal disorders to reality and has spawned multiple diagnostic applications.
This year’s Luminary Awards honor Dr. Craig Venter, Founder & CEO of the J. Craig Venter Institute, and Dr. Ron Davis, Director of the Stanford Genome Technology Center.
Dr. Craig Venter was instrumental in the expeditious sequencing and analysis of the human genome using “shotgun sequencing” methodology. His methods for decoding genetic sequences not only propelled the identification of novel genes and their functions, but provided a foundation for understanding the relationships between species and the biology of microbes.
Dr. Ron Davis developed the R-loop technique of electron microscopy for mapping coding RNA, which led to the discovery of RNA splicing. Dr. Davis was the first to demonstrate the use of restriction endonucleases for joining DNA fragments. He was a co-collaborator in the creation of the first DNA microarray for gene expression profiling and has over 30 biotechnology patents.
