PogoTec™ Licenses WiTricity® Technology to Enable Wireless Energy Transfer for Electronic Devices Associated with Eyewear
Roanoke, Virginia (PRWEB) June 15, 2015 -- PogoTec™ announced today that it has completed a licensing agreement with wireless power industry leader WiTricity Corporation under its patents related to wireless energy transfer for any and all electronic devices physically supported by eyewear.
PogoTec™ has deep expertise and experience in the vision industry and is focused on bringing to market its patent pending On-Track™ platform. On-Track™ provides the ability to attach electronic wearable devices such as a camera to eyeglass frames in a cosmetically acceptable manner that preserves the design and fashion integrity of the frame.
“The WiTricity license complements PogoTec’s intellectual property and allows for compatible electronic wearable devices on eyewear to be powered wirelessly. These devices will also be able to send and receive data. We are thrilled to be a WiTricity licensee and are excited about the potential opportunities with eyewear this provides our company”, said Dr. Ron Blum, President of PogoTec. “This furthers our mission of using eyewear as the preferred platform for electronic wearable devices while preserving the fashion look and style of eyewear.”
“This licensing agreement gives PogoTec a decided advantage in delivering flexible wireless charging to the eyewear market,” said Farooq Butt, senior vice president business development and strategy for WiTricity Corporation. “Eyewear offers a new frontier for wireless power, and WiTricity is excited to license our intellectual property to a pioneer in the industry like PogoTec.”
Eyewear is known to represent the optimal platform for electronic wearable devices. It is ideally located in close proximity to one’s hearing, sight, smell, voice and intelligence. There are over 2 Billion eyeglass wearers globally (not counting non-prescription sunglasses) and an estimated 300 million+ pair of eyewear sold each year in the world. This represents a huge virgin market opportunity that is ripe for electronic wearable device companies.
Richard Clompus, OD, FAAO, VP of Communications at PogoTec stated “PogoTec will become the catalyst for enabling and connecting electronic wearable devices to eyewear in a proprietary manner that will be embraced by consumers looking to balance their everyday technology needs with a discrete and stylish option.”
