Pond Lehocky Develops and Moderates Ethics CLE
(PRWEB) October 12, 2017 -- Associate Susan Nanes moderated a Continuing Legal Education (CLE) event she created and developed, sponsored by the Philadelphia Bar Foundation’s Nonprofit Board Observer Program. CLE faculty included Frannie Reilly, Esquire, currently a solo legal practitioner focusing on corporate governance and nonprofits after nine years at Fox Rothschild, and two professors from Drexel University’s Thomas R. Kline School of Law: Professor Robert I. Field and Professor Emeritus Roger J. Dennis.
The one-hour CLE, titled “Top Five Ethical Issues Nonprofits Face,” covered questions young lawyers encounter when considering whether to join nonprofit boards, nonprofit tax status issues to watch out for, potential conflicts of interest between clients and nonprofits, personal activism and legal reform pitfalls, social media use and confidentiality, and fundraising challenges.
Ms. Nanes began her involvement with the Philadelphia Bar Foundation as a Board Observer in 2015, and has been involved ever since.
“The Foundation works like the United Way, providing grants to groups in Philadelphia that provide legal services that help fight poverty, abuse, and discrimination, both on an individual and a more macro-reform scope,” said Nanes. “It is rewarding to meet our grantee organizations throughout the year. They do so much with so little, and being involved with the Foundation is the perfect complement to my work at Pond Lehocky Stern Giordano helping injured workers, who also face some of the same obstacles of discrimination, need, and having a voice on their behalf.”
