Port of Kalama Commences Maintenance Dredging of Marina in October
Kalama, Washington (PRWEB) September 22, 2016 -- Maintenance dredging of the Port of Kalama marina is scheduled to commence October 1st and run through early December, 2016. The dredging project, which is planned to accommodate fishing season and sports enthusiasts, is scheduled to remove materials that have naturally settled in the marina. The Port conducts maintenance dredging to provide for the safety and enjoyment of recreational visitors.
Advanced American Construction, Inc. was awarded the $430,800 bid to remove 15,000 cubic yards of material and will begin the first phase of maintenance on October 1st with the installation of disposal pipeline. A 10-inch high-density polyethylene (HDPE) pipe will be visible along the river side of the marina parking area to the dredge material disposal site near the TEMCO LLC marine terminal. Daily operations will run from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. through the duration of the dredging project.
The first actual dredging starts on October 15th at the south end of the marina and guest dock and is expected to run for three weeks. The project team will be working from the south end to the north of the marina which will impact some boat owners and guests at varying phases; signs will be posted and letters sent to inform the community of the progress. The entire project is scheduled to be completed by early December 2016.
"Maintenance of the marina basin is a routine activity to enable safe navigation," says Mark Wilson, executive director, Port of Kalama. "The dredging activity will require some inconvenience to our boating customers while we complete the work. The Port appreciates your patience during this project to keep our marina in great shape."
