Portable Toilet for Bedridden Patients Invented by InventHelp Client (OCM-600)
PITTSBURGH, PA (PRWEB) January 09, 2017 -- Bedridden patients require the assistance of a caregiver for most day-to-day functions, including using the bathroom. The most common method used in this situation is the use of a bedpan, which is slid underneath the patient. Although this allows the patient to relieve themselves without traveling to a bathroom, it can cause skin tears and irritation.
A caregiver and inventor from Norwalk, Calif., has invented DEPEND BED, a new type of mattress that accommodates a portable, flushable toilet, providing patients with more comfortable way to relieve themselves. "As a caregiver, an important part of my job is to help my patients use the bathroom," said the inventor. "I was inspired by my late daughter’s ordeal with going to the bathroom while bedridden in the hospital. She didn’t want assistance or someone to be in the room, and during her dialysis she couldn’t get to a bathroom. Remembering her discomfort and loss of independence, I designed this to honor her and all other patients who want to retain their independence and dignity." DEPEND BED gives bedridden individuals heightened independence, improving their overall quality of life.
This invention saves time and effort for both caregivers and patients. It prevents the odor and waste-related messes. It would benefit not only caregivers, but hospitals and nursing home facilities as well.
