Portage Christian School Breaking Ground on $1.3 Million Expansion: Addition will add 10 Classrooms
Portage, Indiana (PRWEB) August 09, 2016 -- Portage Christian School, a non-denominational K – 12 school, will host a groundbreaking ceremony during on August 11 as part of its family orientation at its campus located at 3040 Arlene St. in Portage. The groundbreaking ceremony will take place at 6:30 p.m. The expansion is necessary to accommodate the school’s growth of more than 33 percent since 2013.
“Portage Christian School has seen solid growth in all grades over the past few years,” said Larry Pender, superintendent of the school. “Parents are seeing the value of a Christian education, and our partnership with local churches coupled with the Indiana Choice Scholarship program are making a high-quality Christian education affordable for many families looking for an alternative to their current public, private or homeschooling situation. This expansion gives us the space and tools to continue to upgrade our academics as we add additional classes that enable our students to be successful in whichever college and career path they choose.”
The addition will house the middle and high school classes and include new science labs as well as classroom technology improvements. Construction will be performed by HP Construction of Westville. Approval for the project has been granted by the City of Portage and the State of Indiana, and the school expects to take occupancy of the building at the start of the second semester in January, 2017.
The school currently has openings in every grade except for 7th grade. Many of the classes have only a few openings, and parents who are interested in enrolling are encouraged to act quickly before the classes are closed. For the 2016-17 school year, the school will have one Kindergarten, two- 1st, two-2nd, two-3rd grade classes, two -4th grade classes and single classes for grades 5-12. Portage Christian School, a non-denominational school, had more than 270 students in its pre-K-12 classes in 2014-2015, and has been adding classes each year for the past two years. The school is accredited by the State of Indiana and participates in the Indiana School Choice Program and the ISTEP+ testing program.
