Potentially Historic Sale of Important Diamond and Natural Pearls at Skinner in Boston on December 8
Boston, MA (PRWEB) December 07, 2015 -- Skinner, Inc. presents its fourth Fine Jewelry Auction of 2015 on December 8th in Boston. The auction will feature over 500 lots of diamonds, colored stones, and antique and period jewelry. The centerpiece of the auction is a remarkable collection of diamonds, colored stones, and natural pearls from one of the leading families of the Gilded Age.
Important Collection from a Prominent British-American Family
We are excited to offer a collection of incredible diamonds and natural pearls from a well-known family that rose to prominence in the late nineteenth century. The highlight of this collection is a 31.25 cts. Heart shape Diamond (Lot 498, Estimate $2,000,000-$3,000,000) that has been graded as a D color, VVS2 clarity. In addition, it is identified as a rare Type IIA, which places it among the world’s famous diamonds including the Cullinan, the Koh-i-Noor, and the Krupp. Another standout from this collection is a strand of Natural Pearls described by the Swiss Gemological Institute as “rare and exceptional.”(Lot 493, Estimate $400,000-$600,000).
Colored Stones
A standout among the gems in this auction is a beautiful Kashmir sapphire weighing 5.32 cts (Lot 490 Estimate $80,000-$120,000). Other important colored stones in the sale include a Fancy Blue Diamond Solitaire weighing 2.65 cts. (Lot 476, Estimate $80,000-$120,000); a Colombian Emerald set within an Edwardian Brooch(Lot 489, Estimate $50,000-$75,000); and a pair of Burma Ruby and Diamond Drops (Lot 490A, Estimate $8,000-$10,000).
Antique Jewelry
This sale has a strong collection of antique jewelry from several notable collectors. Of particular interest is a Scandinavian Revival brooch from the Danish jeweler EF Dahl, who supplied a jewelry trousseau for Princess Alexandra of Denmark when she left to marry the future King Edward VII of the United Kingdom. We are also offering a pair of Antique Amethyst and Diamond bracelets by Carlo Giuliano (Lot 463, Estimate $6,000-$8,000) and a beautiful Victorian Emerald and Diamond Cuff bracelet (Lot 456, Estimate $5,000-$7,000).
Signed Jewelry
Among the many designer pieces in this auction there are several worthy of special mention. A Platinum and Diamond Brooch by the famous jeweler Suzanne Belperron (Lot 427, Estimate $20,000-$30,000) is a beautiful example of her distinctive design aesthetic. From Van Cleef & Arpels is an 18kt Gold and Diamond Convertible Suite (Lot 454, Estimate $30,000-$40,000) that can be worn as a long chain or as four bracelets. In addition, we are offering a Diamond Cockatoo Ring from Cartier (Lot 441, Estimate $20,000-$30,000).
Previews, Catalog and Bidding
Previews for the auction will be held in Boston on Sunday, December 6, from noon to 5 PM and Monday, December 7, from noon to 7 PM. There will also be a preview at the Roosevelt Hotel in New York City on Tuesday, December 1, from noon to 7 PM.
