Powerful Women Leaders From Across the Globe to Unite at 22nd National Women’s Political Caucus in July
Washington, D.C. (PRWEB) June 18, 2015 -- Movers and shakers from all walks of life are headed to The 22nd National Women’s Political Caucus from July 17-19 in our nation’s capitol.
The NWPC Biennial Convention will be at the Mayflower Hotel in Washington, DC, and will center around this year’s theme, “50/50 by 2020” to emphasize the organization’s goal of achieving political parity in all levels of government in the coming years.
Among those attending are Shellie Hunt, a current board member for the National Women’s Political Caucus, a TV producer, and one of the nation’s leading speakers, global entrepreneurs and authors.
"As women we are over 51 percent of the blue collar workforce in America and 80 percent of the consumers, which gives us incredible power to be advocates for change. It is time for us to unite as women to be a voice that is heard in the decision making of our country, as the leading nation. It is time for camaraderie, not competition, including equal wages and equal rights," says Hunt who has dedicated her life to inspiring personal potential, business success, corporate leadership, and is an international active humanitarian, and founder of Women for Global Change.
Great Strides, More to Go
In 1971, there were only two women serving in the U.S. Senate and 13 women in the U.S. House of Representatives.
That year, a group of more than 300 women united in what became a shakeup of the political landscape. These women insisted on having a voice about the issues affecting them and their families, and thus, they founded the National Women’s Political Caucus.
Today, hundreds of thousands of women who have given so much of themselves and worked tirelessly to pave the way for others continue to keep moving us forward. As Alice Paul said, “When you put your hand to the plow, you can't put it down until you get to the end of the row.”
Currently, there are 20 women serving in the U.S. Senate and 84 women in the U.S. House of Representatives. That’s less than 20 percent of the total Congress.
Many exciting events are scheduled to take place at the NWPC including campaign training, a keynote luncheon, the Women of Courage Awards, and the Good Guys Gala.
“The NWPC established the Good Guys Awards in 1971 to honor men from all backgrounds who have demonstrated a commitment to the advancement of women’s rights and gender equality, such as Alan Alda, Julian Bond, Anthony Morella (recipient of the Martin Abzug Supportive Spouse Good Guy Award) and President Barack Obama. We are excited to host the Gala again this year to celebrate with NWPC members and supporters from around the country,” said NWPC President Linda Young.
The weekend long conference will be a meeting of the minds, hoping to make even more strides in the political arena.
