Las Vegas, NV (PRWEB) October 14, 2015 -- According to a September, 2015 survey conducted by the Association of American Universities where 150,000 college students at 27 universities were polled, shockingly, 23% of women reported experiencing some form of sexual assault during their college years (CNN - September 23, 2015). In a recent Washington Post analysis of federal campus crime data published July, 2014, more than 3,900 cases of sexual violence on campuses nationwide were reported in 2012, up 50 percent over the prior three years.

The following safety tips will help keep students safe on and around campus:
1. Be alert as to what goes on around campus. Download the AlertID app and enroll for a free account to receive crime and sex offender alerts near your dorm, apartment and on campus.
2. Use the Buddy System. Don’t walk alone if possible, especially at night.
3. Walk with confidence. The more confident you look, the stronger you appear.
4. Lock your dorm room or apartment even if you’ll only be gone a few minutes. Something so simple and quick can make a huge difference in your safety.
5. Never leave a drink unattended. If you are drinking alcohol, be cognizant to make sure that no one adds a date rape drug to your drink.
6. Report any suspicious activity observed on campus to the campus police or local police when off campus and post on AlertID for other students/neighbors.
7. Watch your keys. Don’t lend them. Don’t leave them. Don’t lose them. And don’t put your name and address on the key ring.
8. Watch out for unwanted visitors. Know who’s on the other side of the door before you open it.
9. Have your key ready to use before you reach the door — home, car, or work.
10. Park in well-lit areas and lock the car, even if you’ll only be gone a few minutes.
