Preventing Flooding in Master Planned Communities
Houston, TX (PRWEB) July 29, 2015 -- Costello serves as District Engineer for this 5,500-acre district that serves the development of First Colony in northern Fort Bend County, Texas. The District was created to protect the land from flooding by the Brazos River.
Drainage outfall is provided by two gravity flow structures during low levels of the river, and by two storm water pump stations when the river is in flood stage; in addition, an external drainage channel intercepts flows from upstream areas and routes them around the levee, out-falling into the Brazos River.
Costello's responsibilities included the design of Capital Improvement projects such as pump station rehabilitation/upgrades, levee re-topping projects, ditch rehabilitation projects, and the hydraulic modeling of the District’s internal drainage system using current standards and criteria.
Costello was also responsible for reviewing submitted plats and drainage plans, administration of District’s NFIP program, and the development of necessary operation and maintenance plans.
