Largo, MD (PRWEB) December 19, 2013 -- Prince George’s Community College is pleased to announce that a brand new degree program has been added to its curriculum that focuses on the medical profession. Students with an interest in medicine and this ever-evolving field can earn an Associate’s degree in Medical Assisting through the Applied Sciences department. The college has appointed a stellar group of professionals to spearhead the courses and oversee enrollment, curriculum and the myriad of vital matters that go hand-in-hand with such a robust program.
“Medical Assistants are the only trained health professional that can multi-task and perform both administrative tasks and clinical functions in a variety of outpatient settings,” said J. The Medical Assisting AAS degree program is full accordance with Prince George’s Community College’s mission to provide “cost effective, high-quality programs and services that respond to student and community needs.” The Medical Assisting program will meet student demand for a multi-skilled health professional and community demand for health care workers by providing well-trained, professional and employable graduates. According to the MD Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation (DLLR), there will be a large increase in the number of medical assistant positions from 8,295 in 2010 to 10,365 in 2020, with another 1050 positions being replacements. Within Prince George’s County, DLLR lists medical assisting as one of the fastest growing occupations, with an increase of 24.4% by 2018.
