Principal Says Goodbye with $7,500 School Lounge Makeover
San Mateo, CA (PRWEB) April 06, 2015 -- Principal Bonnie Tanaka is leaving the staff at Madrid Middle School in El Monte, California with a wonderful gift. Bonnie, who retires in August after 38 years in education, 16 of those as an administrator, is the latest winner of California Casualty’s $7,500 School Lounge Makeover® contest.
“Seven years at Madrid Middle School is the longest I have been at any site and it warms my heart to leave something to the incredible people I work with,” she said. “Many of our staff members were almost in tears when they heard the exciting news.”
With input from her team, Bonnie asked the designers to create a “bistro-type” environment with new paint colors and comfortable furniture to replace the threadbare 25 year old chairs. She hopes new appliances will also make meetings and staff lunches much more enjoyable for the 84 people who use the room.
Bonnie may be utilizing the room in the future herself; she plans to reignite the joy she had with students in the classroom as a substitute teacher. One of her assignments could be Madrid Middle School.
Madrid is the 10th school to receive a makeover from California Casualty. The contest was created in 2011 to brighten and spruce up what is often the most neglected area that teachers and staff use to decompress and share meals.
