Pritzker Military Museum & Library announces loaded fall program schedule
Chicago, Ill. (PRWEB) September 10, 2014 -- The Pritzker Military Museum & Library will host an impressive lineup of speakers this fall, including several highly decorated military veterans and award-winning authors and scholars. The schedule is highlighted by programs produced in partnership with various like-minded organizations and by the Museum & Library’s annual Military History Symposium and Liberty Gala on Nov. 7 & 8.
Among the featured speakers are Vietnam veteran and Medal of Honor recipient Allen Lynch, of Gurnee, Ill.; retired Marine Corps Gen. Anthony Zinni, former commander in chief of the United States Central Command; retired four-star Air Force Gen. Michael V. Hayden, former director of both the National Security Agency and Central Intelligence Agency; active-duty Marine Corps Gen. William Mullen; and several winners of the Pritzker Literature Award for Lifetime Achievement in Military Writing, including 2014 recipient Antony Beevor.
"Beyond the publicly available books and exhibits, our programs are a key part of what we do and what we stand for as an institution,” said Kenneth Clarke, president and CEO of the Museum & Library. “Through many years of hard work and determination, this organization has set an extremely high standard of quality—and we’re proud to raise the bar even higher by exploring some new partnerships and producing a fantastic lineup for the coming months.”
In addition to events sponsored by the Museum & Library’s members and donors, certain programs are being produced in partnership with publishing companies, private sponsors, or outside organizations. Partners include The Chicago Council on Global Affairs; the Cyber Conflict Studies Association; the Consulate General of France in Chicago; U.S. Naval Institute; the Chicago Public Library’s “One Book, One Chicago” program; McGraw-Hill Education; Plante Moran; Women for Wounded Warriors; and Oxford University Press.
Museum & Library programs are recorded before a live studio audience and later broadcast on Chicago Public Television. The long-running "Pritzker Military Presents" airs each Sunday on WYCC-Channel 20 at 11 a.m., and the second season of "Citizen Soldier" will premiere on WTTW-Channel 11 in November. Additionally, most programs can be viewed free via Livestream at pritzkermilitary.org, and are later made available as audio podcasts and downloadable video through pritzkermilitary.org/whats-on and iTunes (podcasts only).

• Sept. 13, 3:00 p.m.: Award-winning journalist and documentary film-maker Sebastian Junger discusses and screens his new film, "Korengal," follow-up to the widely acclaimed "Restrepo";
• Sept. 25, 6:00 p.m.: Retired U.S. Marine Corps Gen. Anthony Zinni—author of "Before the First Shots are Fired: How America Can Win or Lose off the Battlefield"—is interviewed by former NATO ambassador Ivo Daalder (presented in partnership with The Chicago Council on Global Affairs);
• Sept. 26, 2:30 p.m.: Retired four-star U.S. Air Force Gen. Michael V. Hayden, former director of the NSA and CIA, discusses the past, present, and future of cyber warfare with cyber security expert Jason Healey (presented in partnership with Cyber Conflict Studies Association);
• Sept. 30, 6:00 p.m.: Author and former prisoner of war Edward R. Murphy shares his experiences as executive officer aboard USS Pueblo, the American spy ship famously captured and held by North Korea since 1968 (interview by Loyola University professor John Allen Williams, a retired captain of the U.S. Navy Reserve);
• Oct. 16, 6:00 p.m.: Retired Army Col. Jill Morgenthaler, a former military intelligence commander and one of the first women to enroll in the ROTC, discusses her new book, "The Courage to Take Command: Leadership Lessons from a Military Trailblazer" (sponsored by McGraw-Hill Education);
• Oct. 23, 6:00 p.m.: Active-duty Marine Corps Brig. Gen. William Mullen and co-author Daniel Green, a lieutenant commander in the U.S. Navy Reserve, discuss "Fallujah Redux: The Anbar Awakening and the Struggle with Al-Qaeda" (sponsored by U.S. Naval Institute Press);
• Oct. 29, 6:00 p.m.: Renowned combat historian and best-selling author Patrick K. O’Donnell debuts his new book, "First SEALs: The Untold Story of the Forging of America’s Most Elite Unit";
• Oct. 30, 12:00 p.m.: French philosopher Marc Crépon—author of "The Thought of Death and the Memory of War"—discusses his work with DePaul University’s Michael Naas, philosophy professor and chair (presented in partnership with the French Consulate to Chicago);
