Privacy Advocate and New Jersey Attorney, Andrew P. Bolson, Esq. launches the Privacy Initiative of New Jersey
Montvale, New Jersey (PRWEB) January 20, 2015 -- The Privacy Initiative of New Jersey was launched on January 8, 2015. As one of the only grassroots privacy organizations in the country, the Privacy Initiative of New Jersey was founded to promote common sense legislation that aims to address the privacy concerns of the twenty-first century. In pursuit of its goals, the Privacy Initiative of New Jersey has outlined a Privacy Agenda for both New Jersey and the Federal Government. For New Jersey, the Initiative’s legislative objectives include:
• Creating a Privacy Day that will bring attention to privacy issues
• Requiring a designated cyber-officer in every municipality who is trained to respond to cyber incidents
• Ensuring the privacy of Educational records by mandating that student records cannot be sold or used to the detriment of students
• Creating a Statewide Chief Privacy Officer to coordinate privacy efforts among State agencies
• Expanding the New Jersey Address Confidentiality Program to include victims of stalking, judges, members of law enforcement and other individuals who may need their address protected
• Addressing New Jersey Public Record laws to ensure that privacy concerns receive foremost consideration
• Amending the New Jersey Data Breach Notification Law to ensure victims of a data breach clearly understand what information of theirs has been breached and what can be done to prevent identity theft
For the Federal Government, the Initiative objectives include:
• Reexamining Section 230 of the Communication Decency Act which immunizes websites for the content posted by third-parties
• Supporting Data Broker reform
• Promoting laws that limit the use of Social Security Numbers
• Advocating for the Creation of a National Data Breach Notification Law
While primarily an advocacy organization, the Privacy Initiative of New Jersey will also promote and coordinate privacy education in New Jersey schools and encourage dialogue between law enforcement, politicians and the community about pressing privacy issues, such as cyber bullying.
The founder and President of the Privacy Initiative of New Jersey is Andrew P. Bolson, Esq. Mr. Bolson is an attorney with Rubenstein, Meyerson, Fox, Mancinelli, Conte & Bern, P.A., a law firm located in Montvale, New Jersey. Certified as a Privacy Professional (CIPP) by the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP), Mr. Bolson has authored several articles about privacy law, examining issues ranging from the New Jersey Data Breach Notification Act to the problems of Section 230 of the Communication Decency Act. Mr. Bolson founded the Privacy Initiative of New Jersey because he understands firsthand how the Internet can be used as an instrument to harm. While dealing with a personal matter, Mr. Bolson became aware of how difficult and frustrating it can be to deter and prevent acts of harassment, stalking and impersonation when it involves the Internet. Knowing many others have faced or are facing similar situations, Mr. Bolson launched the Privacy Initiative of New Jersey to be a resource for victims, a tool for education and an advocate for positive change.
