On 1 July 2013 Judge Corinne Philpott at Belfast Crown Court gave custodial sentences to Richard Barry for 9 years, Glen Benson for 8 years, Andrew McBride for 7 years and David Walsh for 5 years (court case number 101246663). The four continued to plead not guilty even though police surveillance film and phone-tap evidence was provided.
The BBC News report dated 2 July 2013 goes on to say that the four men attempted to blackmail a man and his wife who had previously supplied them with small amounts of cannabis. They told the couple that their home would be burnt if they did not pay them the money they wanted and if they went to the police one of them would be shot. The couple finally fled their home and lived in their car before going to police.
