Prodea Systems’ CEO to be Inducted into the International Space Hall of Fame
RICHARDSON, Texas (PRWEB) September 30, 2014 -- Prodea Systems' CEO and Co-Founder, Anousheh Ansari will be inducted into the New Mexico Museum of Space History and International Space Hall of Fame on October 18, 2014. The International Space Hall of Fame (ISHF), an integral part of the New Mexico Museum of Space History, is the only institution that recognizes the accomplishments of the men and women worldwide who have contributed to man’s quest for space.
"As a female space pioneer, it is a great honor to be inducted into the International Space Hall of Fame,” said Ansari, CEO and Co-Founder of Prodea. “I am thankful that I was able to fulfill my dream to travel into space and begin the Ansari X PRIZE competition to encourage others to make civilian space travel a reality. As we approach the 10th anniversary of the Ansari X PRIZE, I look forward to continuing efforts in fostering space exploration and innovation as well as educating and rekindling the love of space and curiosity to explore our universe in our youth.”
On September 18, 2006, Ansari blasted off into space for a nine-day expedition aboard the International Space Station and captured headlines around the world as the first female private space explorer. She also earned a place in history as the first astronaut of Iranian descent, the first Muslim woman, and the fourth private explorer to visit space. As a successful serial entrepreneur and active proponent of world-changing technologies and social entrepreneurship, she along with her family provided the title sponsorship for the Ansari X PRIZE, a $10 million cash award for the first non-governmental organization to launch a reusable manned spacecraft into space twice within two weeks. This feat was accomplished in 2004 by legendary aerospace designer Burt Rutan. With the success of the X PRIZE competition, the Ansari family helped launch a new era in private space exploration. Ansari is also the founder of the "What If Prize Competition," designed to spark interest in space science with the goal of encouraging students to use their imagination for innovative ideas. Each year the competition presents unique space-themed challenges and gives students the opportunity to think, search and write their ideas on how to solve these challenges.
“Anousheh’s passion for and commitment to space exploration, along with her personal achievements, made her an outstanding candidate for Induction into the International Space Hall of Fame,” said New Mexico Museum of Space History Executive Director Chris Orwoll. “It will be a privilege to present her with the Induction award and welcome her to membership in the International Space Hall of Fame.”
Other Class of 2014 inductees into the International Space Hall of Fame include: X-15 pilot and Astronaut Major General Joe Engle (U.S. AF, ret.); NASA engineer John Houbolt; aerospace engineer Thomas Kelly; visionary Yuri Kondratyuk; SpaceX Founder Elon Musk; aerospace engineer Guenter Wendt; science fiction authors Jules Verne and H.G. Wells; renowned aerospace engineer and designer of SpaceShipOne Burt Rutan; X PRIZE Founder Peter Diamandis; and sole investor for SpaceShipOne and Stratolaunch Systems founder Paul Allen.
The induction ceremony will take place on October 18 at 4 p.m. at the New Mexico Museum of Space History. For more information on the ceremony, please visit the website at http://www.nmspacemuseum.org.
