Cedar Bark Mulch Chunks
Another excellent choice for a mulch ground cover is Ponderosa Cedar Bark Chunk Mulch, available in small, medium, or large chunks. Although it is more expensive than Grade A Cedar Mulch, it is a good value when you consider that it is extremely slow to decompose so your mulch can easily remain attractive for five to seven years. Since it comes in chunks rather than shreds, it gives a different look and is an attractive addition in texture to your landscape. One interesting way to use chunk bark is to use it in some areas for contrast to other areas which are covered with shredded mulch.
Hardwood Mulch
Hardwood mulch is shredded from various kinds of hardwood trees. It often comes dyed in black or chocolate. Use this mulch if you are wanting to keep costs down as much as possible. Remember, however, that it will not hold up to the weather as long as will a good cedar mulch. Remember also that no hardwood mulch is as termite resistant as is cedar mulch so consider this when using hardwood mulches around the foundation of your home.
Cypress Mulch
Cypress mulch is a good alternative if you are looking for a termite-resistant mulch like cedar but want a less expensive choice. It is much lighter in color than the cedar mulch so is generally not considered as attractive.
